Tim Adams: IMF Decisions Political, Analyses Objective
“[The IMF] has the lever of being a universal institution with the greatest collection of knowledge on these issues than anywhere else in the world. If not the fund [to dictate changes in Chinese currency], then who?”
“The problem for us is what we do, whether we think its objective, will always be seen through the bilateral relationship and tainted by politics. Despite the fact that we think its good academic work, it will always be seen that way.”
“There are times and there will be times when its decisions are political, because the shareholders that have to vote on particular issues are political instruments and so we reflect the political will of the people," Adams said, "And so, the nature of the decisions is political but its analysis is objective."
